About Us

The Swan Hotel in Thatcham is typical of the hostelries of old where there was always a warm welcome. The hotel is situated just a few miles outside of Newbury in the delightful village of Thatcham, and offers five newly refurbished en-suite rooms in a converted stable block. There is plenty to explore in this beautiful part of Berkshire, including the Kennet and Avon Canal and Lambourne, known as the valley of the Racehorse. At The Swan, food is served all day and we offer a varied lunchtime and evening menu. Meals can be taken in the lounge and bar or for a quieter experience in our restaurant. All of our food can be accompanied by a fine selection of cask ales, wines and soft drinks. With rooms from £59.95 including our fantastic free breakfast.

Piri Piri Chicken Wings

BBQ chicken wings served with a spicy Piri Piri sauce and cool sour cream and chive dip.
Goat’s Cheese and Caramelised Onion Bruschetta (v)

Toasted ciabatta bread, drizzled with oil and topped with melted goat’s cheese and caramelised onions.

Chicken BBQ Melt

A butterfly chicken breast, grilled and chopped with bacon, BBQ sauce and melted cheddar cheese. Served with chips and a side salad.
Pedigree Beer Battered Fish & Chips

Battered in-house with our famous Pedigree beer batter. Served with chips and your choice of mushy or garden peas and tartare sauce.
Wexford Cheddar & Chutney Tart (v)

A shortcrust pastry base filled with Wexford Cheddar cheese sauce, cherry tomatoes and chutney. Served with new potatoes and side salad.

For all the chocolate lovers out there? An individual chocolate cake with a melting chocolate heart.
Bramley Apple Pie

Slices of Bramley apples in a sweet shortcrust pastry, dusted with sugar. Served with a choice of custard, cream or ice cream.
